The Lucia-procession of the Swedish Church in Frankfurt now visited the Guildhall in Frankfurt Römer on the 13th December 2010 for the fifth consecutive time. The principal city councilor of the City of Frankfurt am Main, Mr. Karl Heinz Bührmann, received the Lucia-procession and appreciated the wonderful tradition. This year’s Lucia-ceremony has to 100% come true on the 13th December, when it is celebrated also in Sweden. The name Lucia originates from the Latin word “lux” (light) and means “the illuminated” or “the Light”. It also stands for “those born on the daybreak”. Before the introduction of the Gregorian calendar in the 16th century the midwinter arrived on the 13th December, which at the same time is the name day of the sacred Lucia. The “Return of the Light” is by tradition celebrated every year on the 13th December. Also due to that the Christmas Fair at the Frankfurter Römer took place at the same time the Lucia-event was very popular. The concurrent Christmas Market at Frankfurt Römer was very well visited at cold weather und sunshine.
